About the Workshop

A bench where the work speaks for itself.

Osmara Chime has operated from the same address in Kuala Lumpur since it opened. The focus has not changed: attentive repair work for mechanical and quartz timepieces, carried out without shortcuts.

Our Story

How Osmara Chime came to be.

Osmara Chime began as a single bench in a shophouse off Jalan Sultan Ismail. The founder, a third-generation horologist who had trained under watchmakers in Selangor and spent several years working through movement types at a repair centre in Singapore, wanted a workshop without the pressures of high turnover.

The approach was simple from the start: assess every piece before touching it, record findings in writing, and contact the owner before replacing any component. Turnaround would take as long as it needed to, and prices would be set and agreed before work began.

That approach remains unchanged. The workshop handles mechanical overhauls, quartz movement care, and annual collection programmes for owners of five or more pieces. The volume is kept manageable so that attention does not become divided.

"To do the work properly, account for it clearly, and return each piece in better condition than it arrived."

The People

A small team, each with a defined role.

Work is not distributed at random. Each person in the workshop has a scope they remain within, and cases are allocated on that basis.

ZH

Zamri Halim

Lead Watchmaker & Founder

Responsible for all mechanical overhauls and timing verification. Trained in Selangor, with further experience at a repair centre in Singapore. Handles movement assessment and written condition reports personally.

NN

Nur Nadia

Quartz & Seal Specialist

Handles quartz movement care, battery replacement, O-ring renewal, and pressure testing. Manages the reminder scheduling and service documentation for quartz clients.

RK

Rajan Kumar

Collection Programme Coordinator

Coordinates the annual collection care programme. Maintains the digital records, schedules inspections, and manages client correspondence for programme members.

Standards & Protocols

What we hold ourselves to.

These are not aspirational statements — they are the operating conditions of the workshop. They apply to every piece, regardless of the service type.

Written scope before work begins

Every service starts with a written agreement on what will be done and at what cost. Nothing is added after the fact without a separate discussion and sign-off.

Ultrasonic cleaning as standard

All mechanical overhauls include ultrasonic cleaning of disassembled components, not a surface clean. Parts are dried and inspected individually before reassembly.

Manufacturer lubrication intervals

Lubrication is applied to manufacturer-specified points and quantities. We do not estimate. Where specifications are not publicly available, calibre reference materials are consulted.

Pressure testing after seal renewal

Any piece undergoing case-back reseating or gasket renewal is pressure tested to its rated specification. Results are documented and returned with the watch.

Client data handled with care

Contact details and watch records are stored on a secure, locally maintained system. Client information is not shared with third parties and is retained only for as long as it is needed.

12-month labour coverage

All mechanical overhaul work carries a twelve-month labour coverage period. Faults attributable to the service are addressed at no additional charge within that window.

Workshop Practice

Repair work carried out with attention to calibre and condition.

Osmara Chime focuses on mechanical and quartz timepieces of Swiss and Japanese origin. The work covers the full range of maintenance needs: from a straightforward battery and seal change for a daily-wear quartz piece, through to a complete movement disassembly and overhaul for a hand-wound calibre that has not been serviced in a decade.

Movement overhauls at the workshop follow a consistent sequence regardless of the calibre. Disassembly is carried out at the bench with photographic records taken at teardown. Components are cleaned ultrasonically, inspected individually, and where necessary replaced — always with the owner's knowledge and agreement first. Reassembly is followed by timing measurement in five positions, with results recorded in the service documentation returned to the client.

The collection care programme reflects the reality of how most serious collectors actually relate to their pieces. Watches in rotation wear at different rates, and gasket condition varies by environment and frequency of wear. An annual inspection across the whole collection, with a maintained record of each piece's condition and service history, is a more considered approach than waiting for individual watches to develop obvious faults before addressing them.

The workshop is located at 27 Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur, and serves clients from across the Klang Valley. Enquiries about specific calibres or service requirements are welcome before any visit is arranged.
