Had a vintage Seiko 5 that had been sitting in a drawer for about four years — it was gaining maybe three minutes a day. The condition report they sent before starting was more detailed than I expected. When they returned the watch, the timing results were attached and it was running within +4 seconds daily across all positions. Took about five weeks all in.

Brought in a Longines quartz dress watch — the crystal had started to mist slightly, which suggested a seal issue. They did the gasket replacement, pressure tested it, and sent me a note explaining what the seal condition had been when they opened it. Picked it up the following week. Clear and no fuss.

I have nine pieces in the collection programme now and it suits how I think about the collection. The annual inspection covers all of them, they maintain a record for each watch, and one overhaul is included. It has taken the guesswork out of when things need attention. Worth it for anyone with more than a few watches.

I sent an email asking if they could handle a rather old ETA movement. They replied the next day with a clear answer. That set the tone for the whole thing — no vague responses, no leaving you to wonder. The overhaul report was easy to follow even for someone who does not know much about the technical side.

The watch needed a mainspring replaced — they called me to confirm before doing it, which I had been told they would but still appreciated in practice. The turnaround was a bit longer than originally estimated because of a parts delay, but they messaged to let me know. No complaints about the work itself.

A quartz replacement that took three days. Battery and gaskets done, pressure test note included. They also told me when the next service would likely be needed, which I have not had from other places before. Small detail but useful if you wear the watch regularly in water.

Case Studies

Three servicing situations, in more detail.

Inherited automatic, last serviced unknown

Mechanical overhaul · Seiko 6R15 · 4 weeks 2 days

Challenge

A client brought in an automatic Seiko received from a relative. The watch ran but had a visible amplitude issue — the rotor was sluggish and the power reserve was shorter than it should have been. Last service date unknown.

Approach

Condition report issued after intake examination. Movement disassembled, ultrasonic cleaning carried out. Mainspring replaced — the original had weakened noticeably. Worn keyless works components replaced. Owner contacted and confirmed before replacement. Lubrication and reassembly followed.

Result

Watch returned with full power reserve restored, timing within +6/−3 seconds per day across five positions. Client received teardown and reassembly photographs and a twelve-month labour coverage note. "It runs better than I expected from something that old."

Daily-wear quartz with intermittent stopping

Quartz movement care · Tissot T-Touch · Same week

Challenge

The client's daily-wear piece had begun stopping intermittently, particularly after temperature changes. Battery had been replaced twelve months earlier at a retail outlet but the issue continued.

Approach

Circuit inspection found a contact corrosion issue unrelated to the cell itself. Contacts cleaned, new cell fitted with the correct specification cell (not the generic substitute used previously), gasket renewed, pressure tested. Case-back reseated.

Result

Watch returned within four days. Stopping has not recurred. Next service reminder issued for eighteen months. "The stopping was the worry, not the battery cost — glad it turned out to be something fixable rather than a movement issue."

Collection of eleven pieces, no existing service records

Collection care programme · First programme year

Challenge

A collector with eleven watches — mix of Swiss mechanical and Japanese automatic — had no service records for any of them. Several had been purchased secondhand. Concerned about condition without knowing where to start.

Approach

Programme scope agreed in writing at outset. All eleven pieces inspected. Digital records created for each, with photographs and reference numbers. Four pieces identified as needing attention within the year — three quartz seals and one mechanical overhaul (included in the programme). Gasket checks and rotation advice for the remaining pieces.

Result

All eleven pieces now have a current condition record on file. The four that needed work have been serviced within the programme year. Collector has continued into a second year. "I had been putting this off for years — having a plan for all of them at once made it much more manageable."
